Classic Rallying - Complete Newcomer

Good evening,

I'd like to try some Classic Rallying and have little idea where to start!

I have a Mark 1V Spitfire and an MGB (in bits) and I want to use them for something other that driving to the pub on sundays - not that there's anything wrong with that!

I'd welcome any help or advice - I had looked an entering the East Anglian Classic but would be a bit too soon as the car needs a bit of work. I'd be happy to help out though if someone with no knowledge is any use!

Would welcome any initial suggestions

Many thanks

Richard

 Hi Richard,

 Hi Richard,

I suggest a good first place to start would be to meet some of us who get involved with such things.

We are just beginning a series of three Sunday morning Regularity events aimed at newcomers and also giving the experienced crews a chance to knock the rust off before the East Anglian Classic on June 18th. The first event is on May 28th, starting near Marks Tey on the south-bound A12 and finishing near Maldon for lunch.

Details are elsewhere on this website on the homepage. If you could come to that there would be a lot to talk about. The other events in the series are in July ( N.Suffolk ) and August ( E Suffolk ). If you have a prospective other crew member, bring them along too.

Tony.

welcome

Hi Richard

Welcome to the forum and, hopefully, to CMC too. It seems just the right time to join with the 12 car regularities and the EAC in less than a month time as Tony said.

It would be great to see you this coming Sunday.

Marshalling

Welcome along, getting to the club nights to talk with folks is another good idea. As is marshalling as this will give you a good insight into how events run. We need lots of marshals for the East Anglian Classic

Hi Tony,

Thanks for coming back to me. Unfortunately have another commitment on the 28th but would certainly aim to join you for the others if I can.

Hi Richard,

Hi Richard,

The other aspect of Classic rallying is the tests which every HRCR event has. I'm sure that you would find these interesting to see and, possibly, a bit of an eye-opener too.

You would be very welcome to come to Wethersfield as a marshal on the East Anglian Classic, June 18th. It's an MOD site so no spectators, just competitors and marshals. We can give you an easy job and you will have plenty of time to talk to others as well. You can register on the home page ( just above the Forum section ). If you have any questions come back here or, having registered, you'll get an email link to me as I'm Chief Marshal for it.

Marshalling

Thanks all for coming back to me and for your help.

I would be happy to volunteer to Marshall at Wethersfield on the 18th of June but should emphasise I have no experience at all. If you can live with that I look forward to helping and meeting people on the day.

I'll register on the home page and look forward to hearing more

Thanks again

Richard

Marshalling EAC

Hi Richard,

Don't concern yourself with a lack of experience. There will be plenty to do and we won't drop you in it.

It's the best insight you will get. Register on-line and you can bring some others with you if you like. They will need to register individually but we will keep you together. Because the base is Operational and Secure we need to know everyone's name and car details, so can't take last-minute applications. There's no obligation to be CMC members though.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Tony.

Richard

There are a number of us using Triumphs on these sorts of events, and evening 12-car events as well. You should hopefully see a 2000 at Wethersfield, and there was a Spitfire and (the same) 2000 out last weekend on the AMSC regularity. I also navigate in a TR6. Another friend has used his Herald, Stag, Sprint and Spitfire for various events.

Hope you enjoy the marshalling, and ask lots of questions.

Cheers.
