Hi,

We are looking to upgrade the suspension on our 1999 Rover 214 and obviously want the world and don't want to pay much for it.

Generally speaking we want something hard-wearing for use in 12 Cars / Gymkhanas / Endurance Rallying etc. (Regs permitting)

Any recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks

Nick and Rob

Rover 214 Suspension

We have seen a Standard MG ZR Shock and Spring setup... would this be a good Interim solution? Not exactly sure how much of a difference it will make....

It will be slightly lower and stiffer, but not much different. You want to fit the ARB's from the MGZR to the front and rear of the 214. This will make a positive difference.

Rover Suspension

Hi nick & rob
Not sure that you will get a great deal of benifit from the zr set up, It will lower the car By 30 mm
We use gaz adjustable coil overs ( about £550 ) on the endurance rover.
But as a good cheaper compremise on our gymkhana and auto cross rover we use g max supension and springs ( about £200 ) and have found these realy good value and robust and realy transformed the handling But not sure how it would stand up to the realy rough stuff of enduro rallying. Hope this helps Kevin

There might well be a

There might well be a difference in the ball joint size between small engined models (1400) and larger engined (1800), and also Rover 200 to Rover 25 / MG ZR.
If so you would need new knuckles and wishbones but it would add some strength.

I believe that the 25 steering rack was also superior in some way.

Sorry I can't be precise - I worked in Rover's chassis design area at the time, but it's a long time ago and I can't remember now for sure.
