Malcolm Watson Spring Rally Stages
Not to be confused with an event in Cumbria the month before!
The Sporting Car Club of Norfolk
Malcolm Watson Spring Rally Stages
Sunday 15th April 2007
at Sculthorpe Airfield (near Fakenham). Norfolk
The Spring Rally Stages is now in it’s sixth year and it’s third year at Sculthorpe.
Last year’s event provided a challenging 70 miles split over 6 stages with stage lengths of 7, 12 and 16 miles.
This year’s event has been dedicated to the memory of Malcolm Watson.
Malcolm was involved in rallying for many years, prior to joining the Sporting Car Club of Norfolk he was an important member of the Norwich Union Car Club. Malcolm was for many years a key committee member of the Sporting Car Club of Norfolk.
Outside of the Club many others would have been familiar with Malcolm, to some as the Route Liaison Officer for Norfolk - a role he fulfilled so well for many years, others will recall him from when they took part in the Norwich Union Classic and later on the Club’s own Classic Car Run.
This year’s event offers 70+ miles split over 8 stages for £190.
Regs now online!

Hi all,
A few people have already sent an entry in for this event next month, who else is planning to do it?
Jim B are you going to be out in the 106? Martin was asking me the other day if I knew.
I am fingers crossed hoping to be out in a MK2 Escort, my first time doing a stage event with a rwd! should be fun.
Please take a look at the Sccon site for the regs.

You can add Dave Town and myself to the list
Jim i look forward to swapping times with you
Am looking forward to my slightly delayed ride in the new car !
Hi all,
30 entires so far, these are the main points on why its such a good event
The main runway is one of the longest in the country it IS MASSIVE
SCCON are a great bunch and their organistion is usually spot on
With such great value for money and lenghts of stages Not many venues where you go in between the buildings any more and the longest stage is a 14 miler!!
Will waive late entry fee for those that are STILL unsure what they are doing, BUT we need to know who you are!
Please dont let another rally die as its such an unused venue, found by SCCON.

You guys are just tryng to confuse me!!
I was impressed with that lovely essie, it managed 2 events in 1 last year - you did well on the prep, guys!
Just to balance the books I've posted more pics of 51 and done a mug shot of Neil P driving!
It's a slide show and so I'm not sure if you can link to it here, but I'll ty...
Nope!! [:s]
So here's the link ....

It continues to loop after the software Ad at the end.
[I'm sure it's just a private battle between you two to see who has the best pose in the car] - who was fastest of you two anyway? [:)]
Enjoy

Well done on the 41 entries to date
You got one in there from Tony & Emma Hewitt - Ex McRae Recce Esc Cosworth?
I had text today to say they'd entered.
Lets hope the entry keeps on growing.
Good luck
Bob
No Haven't recieved it yet but knowing the postal service if they put it in the post today we will get it in about a week probably quicker to crawl over with it.
Still waiting for a few they know who they are so i won't mention names but lets just say all the organising team are happy to have broken the 40 barrier
With that entry and hopefully Neil P's and Mr Rix's that would take us up to 44, we could do with getting 50 just to put a smile on Sculthorpe Swingers face, so if you are thinking about entering please put your entry in as soon as possible, the more the better and it is a great venue, look at the pics, the map it is very good.
Thanks to all that have entered so far!

The entries are coming in now and we would love to break the 55 mark. If you are able to marshel please let us know http://www.sccon.org.uk/srs07/html/2007marshals.html
A raffle per sector for the marshels is planned and Canada Garage has kindly sponsered the money for this as well as the marshels bags, a big thanks to Canada Garage.
You can still enter http://www.sccon.org.uk/srs07/
as most people have said its a great venue long stages, I had a look at the stages on Wednesday and trust me no one will be disapointed, and i'm sure they will bring a smile to everyone taking part, the pictures from last year are great but you dont get from them how big the venue is its huge!
Good luck to everyone I'm off on holiday now!

Marshals still needed - if you can help please contact David Bell (Chief Marshal) on marshalsrs07@sccon.co.uk or 01603 720871
Lots of Chelmsford members in the entry list for next weekend's event.

An unexpected seeding for Jim.
Last minute addition to the entry list, Ben Scott will be co.driving for his Uncle Richard (Lewsey), whilst Richards normal navigator, his Auntie Irene co.drives for someone else.....
Yep, the seeding does look a bit odd considering recent results.
Yes the seeding does look a bit odd! never mind at least its running.
Thanks for that big brother! I will let them know I am now navigating for Ian again, 3rd time this year! people will start to talk.
Well done - that was not easy out there yesterday, for your first event you did really well. Many thanks for pulling over on the last stage and glad you enjoyed the entertainment that followed!!(car 22).
Also thanks to Matt for giving us a push.
Many thanks for your help & support before & during the event we both had a great day & were pleased to finish our first event & cant wait for our next one ! Also thanks to the other cmc members who were at the event for there support.
Glad it was of use! Look forward to seeing you out at Millbrook
The Spring Stages were not the happiest hunting ground for most of the CMC crews. The plaudits go to Kevin Jarvis & David Church who are probably the only ones to meet their aspiration - a good finish with no major dramas.
Steve Tillbrook/Richard Bonner set times good for 5th but a maximum confined them to 20th, Irene Lewsey with Richard Barnard were inside the top 10 until they had a maximum and Matt Endean Dave Town were in 2nd i/c until punctures + ? gave them 2 maximums and a last place finish BUT a finish. WAC's Scott & Aaron Rayner also had a finish with a max ( come on boys join CMC!)
The non finishers included Rob Cameron Tom Peddle excluded for a licencing issue, Richard Lewsey & Ben Scott excluded for OTL
Peter Morgan & Chris Heatherington head gasket & Jim Bowie/Tony Clements fuel pressure regulator ( despite heroic efforts of service crew Mike & Rich to fix)
Matt Endean Dave Town were in 2nd i/c until punctures + ? gave them 2 maximums and a last place finish BUT a finish.
Some sort of wierd gearbox / clutch related problem which left us with 2nd as the only useable (!) gear. Ho hum.... cracking drive by Matt when the going was good, more so on the slicks !
Cheers
Dave
On stage 5 Ian Barnard and I were 2nd in class 7th O/V, we had just passed the first in class crew (broken down) when everthing stopped - a wire had melted and blew the master switch-luckly Ian had a power pack in the boot, with lots of help we got going again , but we dropped loads of places. Even catching 5 cars on the last stage left us 7th in class - never mine we at least made it to the end.
