From what I've gathered on the web and through chatting to people, the Endurance Rally Championship 2008 should still be going ahead.

However, does anyone have any update on what the control tyres will be now that C-Tyres (formerly Colway) ceased trading and doesn't appear to be about to start up again.

regards
Nick

I think the general gist is

I think the general gist is any tyre from List 1A in your Blue book, pick a tyre and stick to it for the year on pain of a points penalty.

I am sure Matt E might know the official line ?

Yep spot on Dave, you can

Yep spot on Dave, you can use any tyre you want from list 1A in the blur book. For those in the championship, you can only use colways or your nominated tyre for all the rounds, to stop people choosing different tyres for each round.

Currently the best tyre is a Firestone F580 van tyre, as the sidewall is 6-ply and very strong, and decent'ish tread pattern.

Here is Owen's post from the British Rally forum:

Endurance Rally Championship

Tyre Decision

After much deliberation about what tyres to use on Endurance Rallies for 2008 the following has been decided:

Competitors can use any tyre from the Blue Book list 1a. Their choice of tyre must be declared at the start of the year and used for all chosen rounds of the championship#

If a competitor in the championship changes to another tyre for any reason a 10 point penalty will be occurred, apart from any on event emergency tyre replacement.

Should a competitor use more than one vehicle in the championship then they must still use either the Colway or their chosen make of tyre.

Competitors wishing to use up their old Colways can do so without penalty, but must also declare which tyre they intend to use when they run out of Colways.

This decision has been made, due to there being no totally suitable tyre for all rounds available at present. We hope that in the future a control tyre will present itself.

On list 1a there is a Firestone F580 that is available with a 6ply carcass designed for use on vans. We have carried out limited tests on this tyre and received feedback from people that have used this tyre on various endurance rallies and it would appear to be a very robust tyre that does not suffer from punctures as much as a conventional tyre. It is unfortunately only available in 2 sizes (175/65r14 and 165/70r13) hence we can't adopt it as a control tyre.

I hope that any sceptical competitors will appreciate that this decision has been made in an attempt to keep costs down and to minimise damage to the forests.

Now we can all look forward to the Great Bustard and the start of what should be another great season of Endurance Rallying

Owen

# The Lombard will be appointing its own control tyre towards the end of January only to be used on that event.
