Is there any generally-recognised split for the costs of events, accommodation (if needed), car prep, tyres, fuel etc etc between the driver and co-driver?

Nick

If your lucky you will get

If your lucky you will get some help towards the entry...

Otherwise its all yours as a driver in most cases. The co-driver will usually pay there own way i.e. Accomodation, food/drink, maps.

Its rare to find anywhere near a 50/50 split as stages are more driver orientated.

As for road rallys we usually worked on the principle of nav paid entry driver sorted everything else.

Depends how nice your navvy is Smiling

When I've co-driven for

When I've co-driven for Robert (Redz) our typical arrangement has been 50/50 for entry, digs and getting there. Anything car related is picked up by Robert, so overall costs are no where near 50/50 as Rich points out.

When last min requests to nav come in, I've covered my own transport/digs/food but generally they've only been a couple of hr drive away.

50/50 all the way

Having navigated on stages this year for someone else I have always paid 1/2 the entry fee and 1/2 the petrol, my own accomodation food etc.

Anything to do with the car is down to the driver.

I do not see why the driver has to pay for everything, as the upkeep on these cars can cost a fortune. As a navi you get just as much fun without the hassel of preparing the car and should be willing to contribute.

As this will our daughters first year in driving on stages, there is no way that she will be able to afford to enter if she has to carry all the costs herself.

Thanks

For all the feedback. It's much appreciated - as a newbie there is so much to pick up and understand. No doubt I'll have some more questions in due course.

Expenses Split

Having been rallying for 25 years, mostly as navigator or co-driver, I have alwasy split the cost of the entire event 50-50, this includes the entry fees, insurance for event, maps, meals, petrol on event and travlling to/from etc.
The only thing tends not to be split is maintenance and repair costs for the car which, unless car is shared, is usually borne by the owner of the car, which as in my case is me even though Gordon drives it (but then he does maintain it as well so I tend to only have to provide cash for the spares etc).

Richard, surprised you do not have a big line of navigators waiting to navigate for you!

Not the case unfortunatly!!

Its been my choice to take to the stages for 2008 because of the increased cost of Endurance Rallys and the reduced amount of local (ish) Road Rallys.

After our chat at Preston start re. cost per round, it seemed it was the only sensible thing to do. Get to go flat out and go up against everyone on an extremely level playing field. Yea its going to cost more... but not that much more!!

Just see how I do, never know may even source some sponsorship one day. (was that a flying pig Eye)

Who pays?

I would say there is no hard and fast rule as to who pays what. It's something you have to agree with whoever you are out with.
Over the years I have navigated for people and not paid a single penny because they have wanted or needed me to sit next to them. On the other hand I've paid every thing and even supplied the car because I've wanted to sit with that driver. Like wise I did six years forest rallying with the same co driver around 50 events and I paid for every thing as he was the best co driver I've ever had and what he come bring was worth more than any money. I've also done stage events where the co drive has paid for every thing but I'd still sooner have my friend who paid nothing sitting in with me. And I've split costs 50/50 and every other ratio you care to think of.
As long as both sides are happy thats the best deal.
As for sponsorship richard you will find 90% of the time people with sponsorship will have some kind of family or friend connection with the sponsor. The 10% with true cold call sponsorship are the people at the very top of the game. But good luck with the hunt.
