Being new to this sliding the car around stuff, I feel in need of some practice time.

Short of signing up to one of the rally schools, is there anywhere in Essex or even further afield where I can go an do a few hours practice of an evening or at the weekends?

All it would need to be would be a area where I could practice cornering round a few cones on a loose/muddy/broken surface, that sort of thing.

You can hire gosfield air

You can hire gosfield air strip for something like £30 for the day - but it's a straight so anything more than chicanes maybe a problem.

If you're happy to practice at low speeds then the sevenoaks autotests are perfect. There's never ridiculous amounts of reversing so car control is key and on the whoel very applicable to the faster stuff.

For a £10r for about 3hrs of hoolignaisim it's great VFM - but I do appreciate it's probably not what you're looking for.

Someone on the clib nights is bound to know of a friendly farmer....

7oaks autotests are based

7oaks autotests are based near Farningham [Brands Hatch way] and are £12 an evening. First one is next Thursday and then every two weeks from then. The reversing doesn't normally appear until the last few evenings and a few CMC people do go. The first ever autotest I did [the first evening last year], it was peeing it down and was fantastic fun - if you want really, really sideways maybe just see if it rains on any of the evenings and turn up if you feel like it? Smiling My plan is to do as many as possible, dependent on the Dartford crossing and when I start new job....

Sorry, completley forgot

Sorry, completley forgot about this post! The test track is officially called 'The old Witch Test Track' although most people at work just know it as Gosfield airfield. Lee is there on Saturday re-re-mapping the rebuilt bike engined race car thing, and although at the min can't find the number he must have it....otherwise he'll be sunbathing on Saturday rather than mapping!
