A new charity rally event to celebrate the life of England’s only World Rally Champion has been announced.

The Richard Burns Memorial Rally will take place at Royal Air Force Marham, Norfolk (home to 8% of the Royal Air Force and a third of the Royal Air Force’s aerial warfighting capability), over September 13-14.

It will be a single-venue tarmac event on the Royal Air Force Marham airfield and take in stages of 10-12 miles. Organised by the Kings Lynn & District Motor Club (KLDMC) the rally will feature 120 competitors – with the proceeds of entry going to The Richard Burns Foundation.

It is intended that the event will raise in excess of £100,000 for charity to be split between the Richard Burns Foundation – which provides support for people suffering from life-threatening diseases or injury and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund which provides similar financial support to serving and retired members of the RAF.

I have also got an entry for the event really looking forward to it, should be a great event. On the entry form it asked who do you want to serivce beside, Marko Martin of course! He was on the entry list last night but not now? I wonder if thats because it will be in the motorsport news tomorrow to raise the PR!

Not sure why they have taken him off, we will just have to wait and see. I did think that this was going to be full very quickly? Having said that we are struggling to find accomodation already for a large group of us.

Richard Burns Memorial Rally

This one has come up quickly, only a few weeks away. The Subaru Works Rally Team have confirmed they will be entering Marko Martin, and the entry list has a host of impressive cars, so this should live up to all expectations.
Many Chelmsford crews on the entry list, and I suspect many will be marshalling as well as servicing.

Richard Burns-marshal car share ?

I'm looking to marshal on the saturday only.

Would anyone like to car share with me ? Dont mind taking a first timer or inexperienced marshal.

I will be leaving from Southend but happy to divert to meet/pick up.

Looks like a lot of local crews will be out. I hope you have all completed your security check forms (RB website). They have to be in this week otherwise you will not get a pass, this includes Competitors,Service, Marshal's. Spectator's have to buy pass.

Richard Burns Memorial Rally

Quite a few crews are out this weekend at Marham, think we will have an decicated 'Essex corner'in the service area.

Taylor/D Earthy, A Raynor/Graham, Lewsey/Lewsey, Tillbrook/Peddle, Scott/Scott & Landon/L Earthy all servicing together with Barnard, Griffin, Earthy's, Fabulous Jim and a few more to mention operating the spanners and making tea!

Few more local crews I noticed on the entry list but won't name them as I can't remember them all - don't want to get it wrong!

The powers that be have changed the rules (everyones at it at the moment) and spectators can now just turn up so if you do fancy watching and haven't got a pass don't worry.

Think we are ready - Bumble has had a respray so looks good but still doesn't go any quicker......still waiting for LSD! But I am sure that we will have fun as always - 'was that left or lippy' thought i'd say it before someone else does!

So heres looking forward to a great weekend of stage rallying and Ian dancing - would love to do it every weekend if there was one on, had the money, prep time, no family to consider etc thats why club events are also nice to do!

Richard Burns Rally Finish...just

Well that was a busy weekend, thouroughly enjopyable, exhausting and fun. Very long stages, of very smooth tarmac for the many CMC crews who competed. Many CMC marashals waving around the circuit, and a truly excellent weekend.
We had the usual dramas returning to service with broken bits, finishing the saturday stages by cutting the last one short and taking a maximum with a blown gasket. Without a spare and not many running a 2.0 pinto engine these days, a few phone calls and Steve Challis, who was marshalling on the stage, knew a friend who was actually just about to leave the spectator enclosure, lives locally and had a gasket at home....so an hour later a bnew head gasket arrived, and our amazing sedrvice crew of Ian and Scott, assisted in this instance by Dave Earthy, started at 7am sunday morning re.assembling the cylider head before the first sunday stage. Halfway through sunday, we ran out of rear brake pads, and thanks to John Taylor for the replacements. Then the final stage of the day, a mile before the final control the engine started to die. Costed downhill for the last half mile through the flying finish, and then towed to the service area by Kevin's monster Sierra, to discover a hole in the side of the engine, so we assume it has broken a con.rod. Couldn't have been much closer to non finishing as we could not have gone any further under our own power, and a good job the finish was all downhill !!
Apart from that, the car went well, and as it's the first time we have managed any reasonable mileage on tarmac, and our impovement during the day was significant.
The rest of the family were out. Sister Irene unfortunatly also expired the engine on the last stage, and Charlotte/Louise suffered from an earlier electical fire then a series of misfires which slowed there progress. All seemed to enjoy the complete event with the "party in the park" on saturday night in RAF Marham.

RB rally

Was a good event, the effort and tolerance of the event by the base was excellent - to have access like we had for the weekend of a live Tornado base and to have the base commander come out and 'start' all the cars and speak at the awards was great. Robert Reid and Richard Burns' dad also spoke with heartfelt words at the awards and got a warm reception. Marko showed everybody the way home - beating the best of the rest by about 40s per stage.

Steve and I had a good event - the new gearbox and recent engine have improved the Escort, it was great to start the second day in the top 10 and then go on to come 8th and win our class on such an event. Most of the stages were about 14 miles long and good, especially the 'B road' section, only the multiple 90' bends down the runways felt a bit tedious (needed because they didn't want the middle of the runways chewed up).

Tony and Paul's event ended on stage 7 with a hole in the side of the block, Olly Doctrove and Mark Andrews came 3rd in the class A college Fiesta, Tony Clements co-drove Malcolm Mawdsley' Subaru and came in 11th over all. Sorry if I haven't mentioned everybody - so many CMC crews and marshals out there!
