Marshal Recruitment

After several years away from the stage rally scene, Chelmsford Motor Club is proud to announce that it is back with a brand new venue.

West Essex Car Club are co-promoting the rally and with their expertise the expectations are high for another excellent CMC/WECC event.

The ex RAF/USAF, now MOD Woodbridge airfield, near Ipswich in Suffolk, has been secured with significant help from Defence Estates and the Station Services Officer at Woodbridge.

We are running the rally on a Saturday to minimise any potential local noise and disturbance issues and have planned 8 stages of around 9 miles each.

Despite not being an active airfield since the Americans departed in the early 90s, the surfaces are in excellent condition and very smooth.

The stages will be twisty and varied and without artificial ‘chicanes’. The longest straight should be no more than 300 metres and so the stages will suit all cars.

Tyre wear is currently an unknown factor, however we are not planning any high speed, long constant radius corners. There is a significant proportion of tarmac and with the likelihood of October ‘variable’ weather, tyre wear could be better than many similar airfields.

A big thank you goes to Ed Scott of Hutton Kitchens for his sponsorship of the first Woodbridge Stages.

As usual the event would not run without all the hard work I know the many marshals and organisers will put in, so a big thanks in advance and our Chief Marshal will ‘contact you shortly’.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
Tony Clements.
Clerk of the Course.
