Thank you marshals

Thank you to everyone involved in helping out with the Targa yesterday - having so many lovely marshals willing to help out made it so much easier. Thanks also to all those who have helped me out along the way in my first time as Chief Marshal.    There is another event shortly at Wethersfield which will also be looking for marshals - run by West Suffolk on 18th May (Autosolo) - but CMC also have another Targa coming up in July this time at Woodbridge. I'm sure any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Wethersfield

An excellent day of motor sport at Wethersfield, well done to the organising team for what looked like yet another excellent targa. I slowly drove the first test on my way to my position on test 2 and it was excellent, I love that area of the venue. Test 2 was, I think, the tighter and trickier(?) of them all and it made our job of cone watching very interesting...

I didn´t get a chance to look at the third one but everyone seemed happy.

A great job by Lucy, everything was so well organised for the marshals.

Great fun

As usual, expertly organised and executed, well done everyone.

I enjoyed the Honda a lot, so much power and very stable even when it starts sliding.  It was great to be able to drive without a real concern about the car and I am sure in better hands it would be a serious contender.  I did need to conserve the navigator though, as she had very little left to throw up by the time we got to test 4.

She is going to market it as the Nav-Plan diet - eat as many hard gums, crisps and cheese flans as you want for absolutely no calories.

Thanks so much Jim, Lucy and all the marshals.

Targa Thanks & Results

Firstly extra special thanks to my co organisers Tony Michael, Geoff Lobb and Lucy Fryer - an excellent job as a first time Chief Marshal, and to Brian Hemmings with the base security work.  Further thanks to the set up and clear up team Dave Thompson, Gary Maddocks, Chris Holliday,Joel Knox & Keith Pettitt.

Congratulations to David Lobb on a clear cut victory in a 90 bhp car  , and thanks for his help in the Lorry load & unload.  The rally was very much a 3 horse race with Gavin Rogers the initial leader, but eventually 3rd due to an uncharacteristic number of cone penalties,  followed by Adrian White slowed by minor handbrake inefficiency but with 5 fastest test times and the leader from test 4 to the end, with particularly impressive bomb dump times was David in the black Corsa.

Barney Lower was the only test winner other than the top 3 drivers  (twice on the shortest test, although there's a spuriously fastest test 10 time for Laura Chistmas in the Fiat 126 in the results!). Barney had a few nav issues early on , but was far from alone as there were 135 lettered cones on the first test. Alan Coombs took 4th hampered by Andrew Bainbridge being sick although Andy himself still managed to drive the shared Clio Williams to 7th. Mike Thomas was a strong 5th and Ben Griffin 6th in his 106.

Wethersfield Marshalling Events

Just to add to Lucy's list of future marshalling events, I'd like to remind you all that the East Anglian Classic, our annual National Championship Historic event, will be using Wethersfield for the tests this year. The EAC is on SATURDAY 20th June and if you enjoyed marshalling at Wethersfield you will be very welcome - marshal registration will open within the next couple of days, or get in touch with our chief marshal Tony Burchnall. It will be quite a sight to see historic cars blatting aroung the airfield - back then everything was RWD except the minis, so lots of rear end sliding !

Paul

Clipboard

I have ended up with a hardboard clipboard after the Targa - who does it belong to?
