Hi all, I'm trying to make sense of the Motorsport UK license section could one of you knowledgeable people tell mewhat type of license I would need for Targa, 12 car and maybe the Preston rally this year.

License question
Targa, 12 car, no Motorsport UK licence just a relevant club card (and road licence). Preston is a non race Nat B licence (and road licence).

Suze. You have made the mistake of being informed (schoolgirl error!) - gives me the opportunity to ask 2 questions:
1. You said Preston needs Nat B Licence - Is that the full bifda 60quid jobbie that I would need for stage rallying?
2. Does my navigator also need to be Licenced? If so what with?

Nope, you don't need a stage one. The one you need, at least, is the 43 quid one, second from the bottom. If you already have the stage one I assume you're covered.

Hi Rich, as Luis says and as per my OP, it's the non race National B you need for The Preston for both parties (to drive on a Nat B Stage Rally it's the Rally National B, to drive in a Nat B Race it's the Race National B etc both of which require tests, BARs and ARDs respectively). For the Non Race Nat B (for The Preston) yes both driver and navigator need it. If you're going Stage Rallying, a minimum of a non-race Nat B for the co-driver is required with the driver requirements as mentioned.
As Luis says, a Rally National B licence is higher than a non race Nat B, so for example I hold both Race and Rally Nat B and as that's higher than a non race National B, they would cover me for The Preston (as it needs a lower licence).

If I apply for the non race national b licence £43 ie licence to Preston!! Can that be used to navigate or drive on one licence or do you need to buy it twice??
Its just that I've really enjoyed the 12 car season and really going to miss it during the summer and was thinking about competing on some national B road rally's during the summer!

Non-race national B is fine for driving or navigating on road rallies including historics. They run from Jan 1 to Dec 31 so best to get it soon as possible. You'll probably have to travel to Derbyshire or further north or Wales for Nat B night road rallies. You'll find them a bit of an eye-opener after 12 cars but good luck!

Dave and Sue (and everybody else ! ) you have my deepest sympathy in trying to make sense of the Motorsport UK website. Indeed, you will find navigating on the Preston is far more straightforward. I have emailed the Motorsport UK in the past week and bluntly told them it is an utter disgrace, and a positive disincentive to anyone trying to register as a Marshal, or complete their online training requirement. For the website to function correctly is way overdue. I read in the latest Motorsport UK News that 2,200 rally marshals have registered so far this year, and that about 30% of those are names new to the Motorsport UK . We are now a quarter of the way through the year and 2,200 does not, to me, seem very many and with the deadline to get all the experienced marshals registered (and accredited) by the end of 2016 marching ever closer, the website needs to be made much easier and intuitive to use as a matter of increasing urgency !

Simon - I'm fortunate to have competed on a no. of Nat-B events in Derbyshire and further afield over the last few years so have a fair understanding of most events and this includes the nav. handouts etc. If you have a particular event you're interested in, I'm happy to let you know what I can. Certainly the Kick Energy Rally of Derbyshire next month is worth contemplating.
evening the kick energy unfortunately is a tad premature for us as our new vehicle won't be completed in time and will be competing on two events in April but will definitely be looking to get involved may, June, July and or August I'll peruse the web and be in touch for advice in due course or if you know of any alternative events I'm always open to suggestions.

Simon - it's worth considering the Altratech 061 (May), Beaver or Colman Tyres (August), Jackson Trophy or Mercian (September). None are too far away.
