New Guy from down the road

I've just joined this forum, so thought I'd introduce myself before I start asking loads of typical 'newbie' questions!

I'm Ed, currently living in Bishops Stortford, knocking on 30.  I'm interested in a lot of motorsport, especially rally, but I don't activley partake in anything motorsport relacted as such.  Unfortunately I have no where to keep or work on a car that isn't for road use.

But, my hobbies do involve mechanics and off-roading.  I've driven byways for the past 10 years, mainly in 4x4s, but also in 2WD cars.  My current daily driver and greenlaning vehicle is a 1993 Vauxhall Astra 1.4:

It has a few slight modifications, but is in need of more (various questions relating to this will appear imminently!)

I am particularly interested in taking part in 'car trails', which is the main reason I've come here.

So there we go, I think thats the intro done, now I'll go off to the right section to ask daft newbie questions!

Car Trials

Hi Ed

Welcome and don't worry if your questions seem daft to you, we know everyone has to start somewhere. Trials are not something that we as a club organise, but we are members of an 'umbrella' club, the Anglia Motor Sports Club, that runs a trials championship. You are close to the end of the season for car trials which is pretty much a winter activity but there are a few events still put on by our fellow Anglia Motor Sports Club member clubs. You would be very welcome to go along and watch, or perhaps marshal at any of these, which you will find in the events list at the bottom of the club web page. Our next event is the Targa Rally at Wethersfield Airfield, and you would be very welcome to marshal on that. Marshalling is a very good way to get an understanding of how the different disciplnes of motor sport work.

Hope this helps.

Second that

Hi Ed,

I am pretty much in the same boat. You should have seen my daft questions full of pish tosh I asked a few months ago when I joined! In fact, I still do!

I second what Paul is saying about marshalling. I am desperate to go out on a Targa rally myself (it used to be called Gymkhana (Ken Block) so should be good fun) but fearing the unknown, I've signed up to marshall for the one on the 24th of April (links on the website), just so I can see it first and get an idea of what it's all about. And apparently, it's not all about cars and mods.

To be honest, the club has been great in being very acceptive and welcoming to newcomers and I am sure you will find it likewise and we will see you out on the course very soon.

Anton
