We hope you've have a good summer and would like to update you on our plans for future events. The club has been very quiet since the July barbecue and 12 car awards presentation, but there's been a lot of activity behind the scenes planning for the rest of this year and much of 2026.
Club nights - after a summer break in August, we intend to continue using Little Waltham Sports & Social Club on the third Thursday of every month, starting from 18th September with a Christmas buffet planned for December 18th.
12 Car Rallies - in conjunction with the Anglia Motor Sports group of local clubs, CMC is keen to promote these 'Street Car' events to both beginners and more experienced crews. Eastern Counties get the ball rolling in September with two training events - a table top rally in Ipswich on the Tuesday 9th and then a dedicated training event for beginner crews in the Colchester area on Friday 26th. The 'Winter Series' of events then kicks off on 24th October in the Chelmsford area and continues on 21st November with a West Suffolk MC event. To make things easier for beginners on their first few events a 'Rally Run' class is being introduced, offering marked maps as a stepping stone before more traditional navigation is used.
There is an issue with insurance premiums for all road-based events increasing significantly - Motorsport UK is working closely with a number of insurers to try to reduce these for club-level events and we hope there will be resolution soon. The training event on 26th Sept is not affected, but we do recommend that any crews planning to do a series of events arrange their own cover to reduce potential costs - companies offering special policies include Kingfisher, David Auden and Marsh.
Preston Rally - Dave Taylor and his team are hard at work putting the 'One and Only' together for 13/14 December. Regs will be published in September and the entries will open mid-October.
Targa Rallies - the last local event of the year will be the Wickford / Cambridge Car Clubs' Debden Targa on 9th November, but CMC has an exciting series of rallies in 2026 starting with the Javalin Jumbo Targa at Wattisham on 29th March. We then have a new multi-venue event being put together by Brian Jaggs and his team - the Tour of the Dengie on Sunday 6th September, based around Bradwell airfield and using tests on land last used on the Essex Charity Stages a few years back. Finally CMC is also planning a Sunday 18th October targa at Debden.
Autotests & Autosolos -other AMSC clubs have a variety of these StreetCar focused events on offer, starting with West Suffolk's at Woodbridge on Sunday 7th September and Green Belt / Cambridge CCs at Debden on 19th October
Looking ahead to next year, the Brands Hatch Winter Stages is booked for its usual date of Saturday 17th January with the East Anglian Classic also on its traditional weekend - June 20/21 - but with a new look organising team, still supported by Paul Brewerton.
Finally, Chelmsford Motor Club celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026 and a special celebration is being planned at Chelmsford Race Course on Saturday 16th May - more details to follow, but please pencil this into your diaries.
Details for all these events will be here on the club's website and on our main social media feed Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/ChelmsfordMotorClub - Give us a follow there to stay up to date
Best wishes,
