The Bagger - what a disaster

Published the regs for the Derek Stone 12 car on 17th Jan, by end of the Awards Nights on the 18th, I had 12 confirmed entries, now have 2 reserves so looks like entry list is closed 5 weeks before the event.
Presented awards for 2006 at Club Night on 18th, good see see night well supported even tho we had the bad storms during the day which affected major roads and train network.
On 20th Gordon and I drove down to Bagger country with the Mexico on the trailer and took Bob Blows down as he was competing with Steve Coles. Made good time, 4 and half hours, took and hour to get through scrutineering and another hour to plot all the cares, GW's, black spots and links sections. Then time for dinner and immediately had to start on more plotting before the start. Had a long run out and only wrong slotted once, I think the run out was the best navigating I did during tht whole night. Overall manged to wrong slot at least 10 times, plus arrived at a control from the wrong direction, left a control in the wrong direction, slotted right when we should have gone left and ended up at the next but one control missing a time control and 2 passage checks. The maps very nearly went out of the window on more than one occasion. This said, we had no dramas with the car, two close calls to walls/hedges of note. 200 miles of tight twisty uphill/downhill roads that was very demanding of driver and car (and navigator when he got that bit right, as I said to Gordon, I was more rubbish than a rubbish person on a rubbish day) Now considering doing a few more of the ASWMC championship rounds in this area, surely I can't make mistakes like this again, also be good to see how the 106 performs on these roads. This said we will back for the Bagger in 2008.
