So a question for all - what did we think of the new clubnight venue?
I'm concious that I am the grumpy old Dinosaur as I write this, and that the good old days of busy lively clubnights are long dead, so the needs for a clubnight venue are much reduced. My memory (never good) of this venue gives me 1 big table and 3 little ones in a cosy little room at the back (conveniently next to the Toilet) of the Resturant propper. Bar prices not withstanding this probably does serve the minimum requirement for what we need for a clubnight venue and it's certainly conveniently positioned. On the other hand something a little more open plan and bright might be more condusive to mingling, chatting, and generating some enthusiasm (in me at least).
What did everybody else think?
I'm reading this in my lunch break so responding immediately , mainly to thank you Rich for responding openly and quickly on this subject, and to encourage a response from other non committee members.
At the moment I have an open mind on the suitability of the venue. It is geographically well located, but the room is small, not necessarily sufficiently private, and the pub is very busy and wouldn't support any large gatherings for awards, bbq etc
We are holding a committee meeting at the 6 Bells on 3rd September and opinions will no doubt be forthcoming.
Jim, I thought it was a very nice pub, but so did 50 or 60 locals. I arrived fairly early, and the car park and venue was fairly packed. I think it thinned out after about 9.00, so looked like a very good eating venue.
The area used by the club was probably the smallest we have had when you look back at little waltham, rugby club and Little Baddow. Unfortunatly I think its a bit small for many of the club nights. How many people do we actualy get at the average club night ?
I would have thought the existing venue was better than this one, purely as there is more more space and its easier to mingle and chat to different groups of members.
