During the Preston meeting the other night I confidently said that there must be a website to convert OS references to postcodes and vice versa easily.
I have since found this one, which is pretty handy as it a) is free, b) seems to work and c) actually is very useful.
You can either enter a 10 digit GR (you need the prefix letters) or click on a Google map. Once it returns the information, simply by a right-click you can open a new tab with the OS1:50000 map and the point indicated on it.

Ive got a free iPhone app called Gridpoint GB which coverts your gps location into a 10 figure OS map reference.
Very handy if you loose yourself on the map
