March Hare 2017

Hi all,  this years CMC March Hare 12 Car Navigational Rally will be using roads in South Suffolk .  The Start/Finish venue is the Lion PH, Honey Tye, Suffolk,  CO6 4NX, MR  155/955¼ 357½.   The route is approximately 48 miles  on OS Maps 155 and 168.   The entry form will be up on the website soon and I hope you will be able to come along.

I would also like to appeal for marshals to help on the event.   Many thanks to Paul and Peter Brewerton,  Richard Baker and Greg Clarke for their offers to do Closing and Opening car duties respectfully.  If you would like to marshal on the event you can contact me through the forum thread or preferably eMail me on graham.e.robinson@btinternet.com.

Regards,

Graham

Fuel

Just to add there is a fuel station on the A134 at Great Horkesley if you are coming from the A12/Colchester direction. I think it closes at 6 pm though.

There is the BP at the Stadium junction not too far off route if coming from the south.

Paul, Colin,

Thanks for the information.  The most likely of the two to be open is the BP Station at the A12 Junction 28 Services approximately 7 miles from the Start/Finish.  I will include the information in the "Finals".

Cheers

Stadium Junction

In fact the Stadium junction is the quickest way to the A134 Sudbury-bound nowadays if coming from the A12 south as it misses out the congestion around Colchester Station. As well as the petrol services there is also a drive-through Mc Donalds for those who like that sort of thing on their way to the start.

And I have to add that the cashier attendant on duty yesterday was the most efficient worker I've ever seen, dealing with a rather large crowd on her own, handling three tills at the same time and with a great smile... She sounded European by the way, but that's a rant for a different forum wink

Absence

Sorry I can't make this one - something has come up which really ought to be given priority. A shame as normally I can't do March due to being on a fieldtrip and that wasn't to be the case this year! Very much looking forward to the April 20/20 though which is now of highest priority!

Absent also...

First I thought I would marshal, then perhaps offer to nav for Luis, then Ellen said why don't we enter for a change, then we realised the date was one on which we are due somewhere else.  So good luck everyone and see you in April.

Colin.

Crews and Marshal Request

Hi all,

With the event only a week and a half away,  I am still very short of marshals.  If you are free on Friday 17th March and would like to help, I would like to hear from you.  Either via the forum or you can eMail me on

.  Every offer will be very much appreciated.

Looking at the entry list we only have 8 confirmed crews.  If you are still undesided whether to enter, the navigation will not be too demanding and the route has a good mix of roads for the drivers. So don't delay enter today.

Graham

"Final Instructions"

Hi Luis,

Not knowing how to put the "Finals" on the Forum, I have eMail'd them directly to all crew members that I have eMail addresses for.  If I have missed anyone out,  can the crew member forward them to their partner.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday evening at the Lion PH, Honey Tye, Suffolk.  Don't be late.

Don't forget, we have an earlier start time of 19:45hrs so we need to complete scrutineering and signing on by 19:10hrs at he latest.  Drivers/Navigators briefing will be at 19:10hrs.  All must attend.

Regards,

Graham

Thank you to Graham and his

Thank you to Graham and his crew for another good event.  Great lanes, good navigational instructions and a nice start/finish venue.  It's the first time Tim and I have got all the code boards, shame the driver couldn't keep up!

See you next weekend, thanks again

Thanks

Thanks to Graham and team and all the marshals for an enjoyable evening. I thought the last 12 car with Luis was a one off but when Lucy could not make it tonight I decided to make another 200 mile plus round trip to the wrong side of Colchester and it was worth it.

An improvement since the last round is good for us, and the singing and navigating in French just made for a slightly more surreal but funny evening.

Who could have guessed a French car would have dodgy electrics though.......

Thanks again all.

Results

Hi all,

Congratulations to Mike and Mark on another well erned win.   Well done to Ben Cutting and Steve Cumber with their first clean run to a well deserved 1st Novice class win.  Congratulations to Beginners Alister and Nathan Brown for completing the route with only 1 Fail and without opening the "panic" envelope.  In fact, all crews did very well with only 2 fails across the field.

Many thanks to all the marshals and officials for their help to make this event happen.  Apologies to Tony, Jim and Craig for the tigh scheduling between you TCs but you made in time for Ed and Martin in the Opening.

My lasting memory of the event will be that everyone, crews and marshals arrived back at the pub within OTL.  Well done!!

The full results S/S will be posted here in the next few days.

Regards,

Graham

Thanks

Thanks Graham and the Marshals for a great rally last night.

Other than the first grid referance I managed to plot the whole rally on the fly. The first time I have done this since becoming an expert.

The route was great driving lots of roads from my misspent youth and I still know many of them like the back of my hand.  I gave Mike a running commentry of the pubs that I have frequented as we passed them by and we gave a toot as we drove past my parents front door. Then the icing on the cake was to find out we had won the event a great end to a very enjoyable rally.

Thanks

Mark and Mike

March Hare

Graham, what a cracking route. One of the most enjoyable ones I remember on a 12 car event.

Thanks to you and all your band of marshals and helpers. I enjoyed the company of Suze, who again made a 200 mile round trip just for this. At some point she believed she was Julien Ingrassia and even sang some random songs...

Missed a code board and dropped a few minutes, mainly because of some electrical gremlins that meant going from full beam to absolutely nothing when dipping, it was quite scary but somehow the car sorted it by itself on the last couple of sections and was OK getting back home.

Car is due for MOT before the April Blossom, it should be OK...

I assume that was left over

I assume that was left over from last year's March Hare, and have blanked it.

Just to add to Mark's

Just to add to Mark's comments above, that was an absolutely superb route for a driver and I enjoyed it very much.  Thanks Graham and crew!
