Hi all
I'm after some informed knowledge of how to lower the temptemperature under my hood.my car is a clio 197 turbo .
I have read all about bonnet vents only working when stationary due to air pressure over bonnet being greater than that trying to raise up and out of vents . Has anyone tried a turbo jacket? Should I wrap the manifold down pipe ? I have heard it may crack
The car has working air extractors on back edge of front wings but not efficient enough.
I know now the air filter is in the wrong place as when the rad. Fan cuts in hot air blows directly on to it .I understand how hot the turbo runs at so the effect to inlet charge may be minimal..or not?. The intercooler is 90mm thick so as big as I can get .
The management system will knock back timing and boost if inlet temps are to high and this I feel after a hard run
Any ideas welcome
Dean Clayton
Looks at the bonnet vents on current WRC / R5 cars, they have lips infront of the vent to create a negative pressure zone which then draws the hot air out of the engine bay.
Manifold & turbo lagging will also help, or try these new manifold / tubro coatings.
I will indeed take a look
I heard you can ceramic coat the inside of the down pipe rather than the outside to stop exhaust heat escaping true?
Mines 75mm i/d so a coat won't reduce size much
.
I haven't tried it, but lots of people use this firm for coatings : http://www.zircotec.com/products-services/for-motorsport/
Thanks Matt always good To get confirmation from someone else
I'll contact them cheers Dean
Second vote for Zircotec here. This company used to sponsor our Formula Student team with free exhaust/manifold coatings. Although it was used not for under bonnet temperature reduction purposes but it significantly reduced the toastiness of our drivers' backs because they sat one panel away from the exhaust manifold.

Thank you both its now on my to do list
Hi Dean,
Zircotec aside, did you ever end up doing / changing something about the ducts / vents on your car and to what result? Interested to know
Heat issues mainly due to failing turbo. I've just had it upgraded to a biillet wheel ..Compresser
Wheel was cracked and bearing worn.
I'vegot some vents to fit so still in progress
