Not seen anything in the event regs for the JJ, so am I assuming we're going by the Blue Book wrt tyres? i.e. no 1B list but MSA slicks ok? Or was there something in the AEMC regs, which I couldn't find?

Thanks Tony, was just looking for those. True what you say though, no mention of the tyres, meaning all systems go for FIA slicks?
EU-friendly "FIA" tarmac tyres are not so slick any more. They are still possibly too smooth for where Jim is thinking of taking you on the JJ Targa!
Tyre discussions tend to die down the dead-end of "List 1A-only" - a short list of tyres selected for production-car circuit racing. Doing that would exclude all of the cheap no-name tyres some people have (Matt's shed is probably full of them), winter tyres which many other targas allow/require, and remoulds (cheap or otherwise). If List 1A, the competive drivers would have 4, 6 or 8 new Michelin Pilot Sports for each event.
Perhaps we should just have two experience classes subdivided by the type of tyre you are using?
Don't get me wrong, I would be happy if we were down to 1A+'round&black' ones, of which I have a shedful myself, as I'm not daft to want to compete on £200/corner tyres. But as I discovered last year, 888 or similar did make a fair amount of difference especially round the tarmac/concrete spectacles, where the majority of time will be spent at Wethersfield and, arguably, Debden.
Since the regs have now opened this up, I'm curious to see how many turn up with the FIA ones on or as spares, especially since they're stronger than your usuals and are used on Rallycross cars that do see some gravel, so not all is lost on them on the loose.
Very funny on the tyre classes... Why healthy questioning is always seen as whining. :D
I'm not totally joking about tyre classes! They willl make more difference than whether you do or don't have a 1400cc engine.
A set of 4 FIA tarmac tyres will last much longer on airfields like Wethersfield than List 1A tyres such as the Toyo T1R, and could cost you less over a whole season. It has taken me a few years to use up a set of Pirelli stage rally tyres (only 3 events/180miles a year). I miss Sculthorpe.
As an organiser I think we should have List 6 only! Everybody on second-hand forest rally tyres - cheaper, lower grip, and no punctures when we use the rough bits of the venues.
