Online CMC Quiz - Thursday 17th December Register Now

I will be hosting a virtual online quiz on Thursday 26th November , aiming to start at 20.15.

Ben Scott will help me with visual and technical stuff, and Karen Scott will do the results and marking.

Cheating will be allowed , as I cannot stop peope using their phones BUT because contestants can cheat I will have the right to handicap or penalise or block answers from people that are doing too well, cheating too well, or on subject rounds which they are too good at!! Basically I will apply success ballast or "Wait Penalties" , a bit like the BTCC but means smarties have answers blocked to keep the competition close.

Entries from individuals, teams or bubbles are accepted and I'd like you to register interest on here now , with your team name , or individual name AND IMPORTANTLY PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SPECIALIST SUBJECT. It will be embarrassing to get beaten on your own subject but thats all part of the fun.

The sooner I know your specialist subject , the more research I can do. I'm expecting interests as diverse as Flatford Lock, Asturian Cider Apples, Tyres, Spurs & Saints FC's, the Tour de France, & Cumbrian Geology.

The intention is to use jitsi and log on details will be notified on here and by email.  I will have a short practice event on Monday 23rd to ensure that the system works. Answers will be submitted by TYPING ON THE COMMENTS SCREEN so it will be a fastest finger first system.

At the beginning of the quiz I will ask contestants to type up their name/team to ensure they are there and a bit of chat asking format rules can occur but once the quiz starts I want contestants to mute.  For multiple name answers ( eg 5 largest cities in Italy) I will only accept one answer at a time. Some questions will require 2 answers and they must be submitted together. I will give clues for harder questions if I dont get correct answers quickly.

Entries from non members are acceptable  . . .I will know who you are!

Quiz Date Change - Now Thursday 17th December

The quiz practice on Jitsi Meet went well on Monday but due to the need to refine the visual aspects of the quiz , and make up some more questions,  I have changed the date to Thursday 17th December - a date on which we might have had the Sausage Roll & Mince Pie club night in a pub were it not for Covid.

Could interested members please email me on

to get personal meeting invitations and suggest some topics on which you'd like questions. So far Colin Sutton wants Minis and Monty Python, TC Rallying and Dave Taylor Motoring News Road Rally Ch'ship.

Quiz Results

It happened last night attended by 5 , with occasional connection problems.

Big thanks to Ben and Karen for their IT support and Hutton Kitchens Trade for hosting.

Dont tell anyone the answers, Pike as I may re run it for those that wanted to do it but were busy.

The surprising winner was Luis Diaz who did not submit any specialist questions but definitely cheated the best , I say cheated I mean rallymanship. Cheating was allowed , so that difficult questions could be looked up. Luis was simply best at Wiki searching , guessing and pimping other peoples wrong answers.

Luis got 13 out of 50 and came first. Tied for second on 12 apiece were TC and Suze.  I have to say Suze is the moral winner of the whole quiz as SHE COULD NOT HEAR THE CLUES. She could see the written questions , but if no answers came in I gave verbal clues. Karen was texting her some clues.  Also Suze could type fastest a definite help.  Paul Brewerton got 9 , again some IT issues and Gordon Milbank 4.

We hadn't re-read the

We hadn't re-read the instructions, and only clicked that cheating/rallymanship was at play when people were very quickly translating Welsh and something seemed amiss....! Thanks for organising.
