Eastern Counties are kindly hosting the Annual Quiz for East Anglian Motor Clubs at Horringer Community Centre near Bury St Edmunds - the regular home of West Suffolk MC.
The quizmasters are Nick & Julie Skuse ( CMC as well as ECMC members) and questions are partly motoring/motorsport but mostly not.
Teams of roughly 4 persons are invited to enter. Food is £7 per head . Entry link on the AEMC events list on this page.
Chelmsford A Team members Colin Sutton , Ellen Sutton & Paul Brewerton are regular winners of the event and the other clubs are keen for us to be beaten.
My plan is to enter more than one CMC team so at least one of our teams doesn't win!
Let me know if you are interested in coming along.
Jim Bowie
We only managed to get one Chelmsford team ( Colin & Ellen Sutton Paul Brewerton & Jim Bowie) to Horringer but we had an enjoyable evening long battle with the West Suffolk Wanderers (Paul & Robin Hernaman & their partners Fiona & Heather) to hold out for a win on 74 points to 68 . The Sccon team were 3rd on 49 with 4 other teams a bit further back.
The quizmasters Nick & Julie Skuse put on a great show with no nonsense handling of any queries and coming up with two unique rounds. The first was a food break ingenious marathon "name the car make & model" using oblique clues like Spanish Sword for Lamborghini Espada and a Greek lower case Symbol we failed to recognise for Lancia Gamma. We did OK on the rest.
Our worst rounds were Motor Sport & East Anglia but Ellen Sutton was scintillating on the Music & Books rounds.
For the final round named "Chelmsford" we were asked a number of questions of increasing difficulty, and then asked to self mark the round where Ellen read out our answers one by one. We didn't do too well & feared our rivals might take an advantage. For those we got wrong Nick asked for the other teams to shout them out, and eventually the penny dropped - it was a spoof round to catch us out , and all the other teams had the answers & just played us along! Well done Nick & Julie.
Our team have agreed to host the quiz next November but we'll run it at Horringer community centre ( Bury St Eds) as it is central to the other clubs and for some of our widespread membership too.
