The route, starts in Chelmsford and has 9 sections requiring 10 marshal crews. The finish is at Rivenhall Hotel, car 1 due 9.42pm. Clues for the 9 sections are Map references, Spot heights, Direction leaving junctions, crossing grid lines, Tulips, 1 map reference, YyY's, Herringbone and TL, TR's etc. There are no tricks. If anyone wants any training on these sorts of clues please let me know. Timing is 30mph, rounded up/down to nearest half a mile.
With this number of sections for a 50 mile route (inc run out/run in) I do not want to have more marshals than competitors.
Hi, as Kevin Ablitt and Andy Elcomb have entered the above event and have won it for the last 2 years, are there any experts out there who want to give them some competition? If so I will do some proper Expert clues!
Brian ,did you receive my email ?

Still places left, so keep them coming in. Looks like a best Historic class may be required, may even get the Mexico out to run as course car!
Brian. Can you put us down for a late entry? Rich Baker / Mike Tomas in the Grey Peugeot 205? I'll try and get an entry in the post Monday if it's required (or I can pay on the night...?).
Thanks in advance.
PS. I'm in the left hand seat so I guess we need to run as Expert (Ironic as that is!).
Thanks again

All entrants bar two have confirmed receipt of finals, all marshals have confirmed, clues checked by Bob Blows, Ed Scott and Paul Brewerton, paperwork copied and collated, enveloped etc, all equipment ready, just leaves trophies to collect, start and finish venues to check and we are ready to go. See you all tomorrow evening.

big thanks to the organisers and all the marshaling team at the Derek Stone last night.
We were feeling pretty confident before the start and really excited about it being 4 beginners on the list. All started very well when we managed to plot up to TC7 in the 15 minutes given before setting off. A couple of missed turns after TC1 but all looking pretty decent until TC3, then disaster happened...
We completely lost our place on the map and then tiredness from a long week at work started to kick off, frustration came with that. We went round in circles around Wickam/ Great Totham area for a while until we decided to call it a day, I think we were well OTL so decided to go back to Rivenhall. Sofia (being myself a driver it's a must to blame her, right?) even fell asleep so I still wasn't sure if we were heading the right direction... we eventually made it and went through the 'embarrasment' of handing in a nearly empty time card.
To sum up, happy of being able to plot up most of the route but disappointed of the map reading skills. You always learn from the experience so that's what we need to improve...
After results were announced we had a thought. I know it's in the rules and the same for every crew it but I think opening the sealed envelope should penalise a bit more than 3 fails.
Well done to the winners, it was very tight at the top, and looking forward to the next one. Hopefully we'll be able to make it.
Luis and Sofia (red Mini)
Thanks Brian, Gordon and all marshals - thoroughly enjoyed last night. Great route, straightforward navigation, but we need more horsepower to drop fewer minutes! Happy to come 3rd behind Andy Elcomb, top nav London to Cape Town recently!
Andy & Chris

Brian, I think John would be delighted to have won again but he was in the middle east on Friday night (at least that's what he told me!)
Somewhat surprised although pleased, to win again so thanks to all concerned in the organisation and especially Andy for stepping into the hot seat for a re-run of 2011.
Great night out, we were really pleased to get around on spot on time. We were helped a bit by me knowing 75% of the roads "like the back of my hand" and by the expected thick fog holding off. We even went behind my house at one point, hope the bad dips in the lane between Lt Totham & Goldhanger didn't hurt too many cars or passengers!
Thanks also Brian for the most welcome analysis on the scoring, although this time we already had a pretty good idea where we messed up - we got hung up with the pressure of trying to keep on time at the expense of careful and accurate plotting when we should have worked the other way around.
Just one query on the penalties though, crews who missed TC6 (the unmanned one) were penalised for missing the code board soon after, however as they actually missed a Time Control also, should not extra penalties also have been incurred against that?
Best regards and thanks again
Mike
Many thanks to Brian and all marshals for Fridays 12 car ,very enjoyable .My son Matthew was driving us round for the first time in a car he's not driven before so we kept the speed down for his first event .
Very suprised to come 10th o/a with 1 fail and 15 minutes ,obviously the majority of the field had a good run and the competition was close .Annoyed that i sent us the wrong direction from that 5 roads junction so collecting a fail , then spent too much time with the circular herringbone .
Soon as we got to the finish Matt asked 'whens the next one ?' so i take it he enjoyed himself aswell .
Apologies, cut and paste errot and trying to do work when really I should have stayed in my sick bed, but crews were
1st overall Kevin Ablitt/Andy Elcomb
2nd overall Mike Thomas and Rich Baker,
sorry
