Tendring 12-car

Do you have any experience? and were you looking to read the maps or drive??

I was due to read the maps on the Jan one for a friend who wants a go, but can't offer the service on the next one as I am organising it!

Cheers

12-car newbie

I'm not totally sure but I think additional passengers is against the Motorsport UK rules.

But..... I think you may have just volunteered yourself to help in some way.. :-)

Passengers

Passengers in the rear seats are allowed on road rallies. A very recent rule change means they now aren't allowed in open-topped cars during special tests (most applicable on historic road rallies).

Ding Boston's Golf has a mid-mounted racing seat in the rear for 12 car trainees - although he only does those events near Oxford.

I would like to have a go but

I would like to have a go but I only have a astra van which isn't the right engine size. So I could jump in with someone if they had a rear seat, hopefully there might be someone?
Unless my van could squeeze in as a novice somehow ;-)

Astra Van

Hamish,

There's no such thing as an incorrect engine size. If it's road legal and fairly standard you can use it on a 12 car, and you can win. All you need is a navigator. These events are all about going the right way, maintaining the 30mph average is secondary.

Volunteers?

entries open

Entries are open now, link to form is on front website...

but, are commercial vehicles allowed?

5.1. Competing cars must comply with the appropriate
Technical Regulations (18-20, 46-49, and Section
J).Commercial vehicles are not permitted in rallies
except in accordance with J.5.20.6 and where the time
schedule is set to a lower.

I don't know what the last bit on that regulation means...

entries on 12 cars

You have read R5.1 in the Blue Book. The specific regulation is aimed at the supplementary regulations so that organisers of commercial vehicle competition run the event at a lower average speed to comply with the motor vehicles (competition and trials) regulations, and for vans this is 25mph.

12 car average speed is 30mph and the operation of these events is slightly relaxed to encourage entrants. In addition a key point is - unless permitted by SRs. so a small change to SRs will allow vans.

Tony M should change the SRs for 12 cars to permit vans upto a specific size (load capacity) which avoids any confusion.

However main message is YOU'LL BE FINE so go out and enjoy.

OS Maps and 12 car equipment

Hamish,

Your navigator will need to buy their own maps and wil also need some other equipment -pencil, rubber, ,map board, clipboard plus a 'romer' - a plastic card with marks to help plot map references.
For an overview of what the sport is all about have a look at the Help pages of our website - http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/node/23 There is some training documentation and sample navigation.
Come along to the next clubnight - a few experienced naviagtors are usually there (although I won't be) - and pick up some tips.

For the car a map light will be needed, and a map magnifier is useful for reading the fiddly bits of road.

OS Maps

The entry form states 155, 168 & 169 - latest or very recent editions.
As well as these 167 is a well-used map on other CMC events.
