1950 Series 1 Landrover - LDV 983

Inherited from my father, i would keep it but i honestly don't have the time to make use of it sadly, and it seems a waste for it to sit doing very little. Was used as trials and competition vehicle before my Dad owned it so has some knocks and signs of use as you might expect. Spec is not original and if this is what you want this is not for you, but if you want a useable Series 1 with an interesting history then this for you.

Spec is as i remember it from what my Dad told me a few years back, I am no expert on Landrovers or parts/spec......

Black paint work in fair condition some bits missing, no real issues as panels can't rust! Some knocks and dents from years of use and abuse.

Good points

Landrover 2.6ltr straight six engine, 90bhp and a mountain of torque. Runs very well with all new fuel lines and pump. Not converted to unleaded but has been running on true leaded 4*. Will come with a tank of 4* fuel. Running on a SU Carb fitted with a K&N air filter. The longer engine is why it has headlights outside of the grill. Has the proper 6 cylinder radiator. Luminition 'pointless' distributor conversion. Alternator conversion (-ve earth) alternator came off a lorry, and has huge capacity.

Later gearbox and transfer box with yellow push lever for high/low range. (Should be the pull-chain for its age)
Overdrive fitted and working fine, and makes road driving much more possible.

LWB brakes all round, work fine and are good and sharp.

Very good lights all re-wired by my Dad (an electronics engineer) relayed headlights and indicators fitted.

Windscreen wipers

Later axles with fully floating shafts, adapted to take standard half shafts, front free-wheeling hubs.

Homemade main roll hoop and stays which has allowed for car three point seats belts to be fitted and used.

Good tyres with plenty of tread, including the spare.

Works development MAP drum which

Comes with a very comprehensive tool kit (very heavy!), also quite a few spares, manuals, tow rope, and other bits you can see in the pics.

Lots of paperwork, receipts, circuit diagrams, and other information, including a BHV certificate confirming date of registration.

Adjustable height towbar (with towball and pin) with double electrics.

Front bumper mounted towball

Hood is made by Exmoor Trim and is in very good condition, and about 10 years old.

No MOT as it is MOT exempt

FREE road tax! Renewed in April.

Cheap insurance ~£100 for me on a classic policy.

Bad points

Fuel pump works fine, but has a fuel feed problem which means the engine only runs for about 5/10 mins at a time before it needs priming again. Could be either a feed from the tank issue or the fuel pump needs moving to a lower position.

Bulkhead and chassis out rigger have some rust - see additional pics. Rest of chassis is good.

Most dials and gauges don't work, apart from oil pressure & ammeter.

Leaks oil in all the usual places Landrovers do, Dad said Landrovers mark their territory.....

Winch doesn't work, due to it not lining up with the engine, has worked in the past.

Also comes with a collection of spares, wings, wheels and tyres, etc.... all of these are to be collected from Totnes, Devon by the buyer.

Landrover is currently stored in an secure dry old barn about 20 mins from Luton, viewing is strictly by appointment only.
