Halloween 12 Car - 18th October

The entry list has opened for the second round of the Winter Series - the Halloween 12 Car Rally on 18th October.
Starting at Preston's Garage in Writtle and finishing at our club night venue, The General's Arms at Little Baddow the rally will take in around 50 miles of lanes on map 167 and is an ideal event for beginners.

Entry forms should be posted to me - replies to this posting do not count as entries - with money.

I also need a few marshals - please contact me directly or volunteer by responding to this thread.

Entry for Mike and I in the post.

Paul, does the navigation work on a C2 underscore version of 167? I only bought a new one at the start of the year and haven't even yet done the highlights.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

As the request earlier earlier in thread, do we need a C3 edition map or will a C2 edition be ok?

Thanks

To Paul B and the team, many thanks for an excellent event.

We started badly with Scott misplacing his romer 90 seconds before the start, Contrary to belief (JC) I didn't eat it!
Apologies to Mark Andrews for the change in convention by arriving at his control from a different direction, but he did have it in hand with some young component marshals that had a very valid question.

To answer their question ' don't know why we came that way!'

All in all an excellent event.

many thanks

Halloween Thanks

Big thanks to Paul and his team for a great event. Of course thanks to the marshals too that, for once, seemed to enjoy a dry night.

JC navigated me around brilliantly and I guess I could have been a bit quicker.

The route made up to the Halloween theme with the 'spooky' approach to the ford, JC was still writing a code when I came across it. Good thing I'm not quick as I would have possibly ended like John Peterson in the Pug...

well done to the winners and see you at the autosolo next week, Targa in November ot the Mick Bliss... busy times ahead!

Many thanks to Paul and the merry band of marshals and helpers. Any event with an unmarked ford round a blind-ish bend while the nav is still trying to write a codeboard down gets the thumbs up here. Just hope the Pug isn't too badly damaged. We would have enjoyed it no matter, but the result was the icing on the cake. Ellen & Colin.

We had a great time in car 8,

We had a great time in car 8, the Dolly Sprint. I actually think that with the multiple fantastic driving roads that were included, coupled with the dry weather, that this one ranks highly in my top 10 most enjoyed driving events! The Dolly doesn't like tiny lanes as sitting low to the ground it grounds out way too easily!

Very pleased with our result too, luckily Darren was able to quickly put right the big navigational blunder that saw us heading briefly the wrong way up a narrow lane, meeting several rally cars coming along the other (correct) way! Sorry to anyone whom we surprised along there, and thanks to all marshals and organisers.

Halloween Results

It seems that most of you enjoyed Friday night. There were only two casualties - Kevin Ablitt / Ian Graham, mal de navigateur and John Peterson / Ian Smith , went off in Gordon's ford near Great Leighs (and were rescued by Gordon Millbank, after whom said ford has been named for last 18 years or so, after Gordon floated away in it. The results (slightly delayed as I was away in Devon all weekend) were:

1st Ellen Tilney / Colin Sutton (N), Audi A3 0F07m
2nd Mike Helm / Colin Wake (N) TR6 0F11m
3rd Luis G. Diaz / John Conby (N) Mini 1030 0F22m
4th Mike Bishop / Darren Armitage (N) Dolomite 0F25m
5th Pat Tierney / Stuart Collett (N) MG ZR 1F05m
6th Mike Banks / Mark Rutter (N) Spitfire 1F14m
7th Eddie Call / Adrian Bragg (E) MG BGT 1F19m
8th Jane & Graham Robinson (N) 500 Abarth 6F29m
9th Paul Dumbill / Scott Page (N) 106 Rallye 7F26m
10th Robert Turner / Aron Hare (B) Fiesta 1.3 8F10m

Congratulations to Ellen and Colin for a good win. Mike and Colin were doing very well but dropped ten minutes hunting a board that was in the wrong place (apologies for that) and Pat and Stuart also had a very good run but failed to go around the triangle towards the end of the first section - despite Gordon & William Millbank trying their best to attract Pat's attention, he assumed they were DSOs since Stuart hadn't called the LWR. Mike & Mark managed a WD into Andy Merchant's PC early on - quite an achievement on the loop off the A1060 between Chelmsford and Roxwell.

A more detailed analysis of the results will be published later in the week, but a quick review shows that four crews were fail-free, the next three crews with one fail all picked them up on the first section and every time control was cleaned by at least one crew. But no one cleaned the event, so it might have been about right.

I look forward to seeing you all on the next event, which also has a full entry.
