Afternoon Everyone,

Afternoon Everyone,

My wife and I are new to the CMC and was wondering if we could be put on the reserves for this first 12 car of the season?

We would love to be able to take part - we'll send in an entry form, is that OK or do we wait until a slot may become available?

Thanks

welcome

Hi will

Welcome to the club and forum. I'd send an entry form as this will guarantee a first reserve spot, there's always a big chance of someone dropping from the list (it could be me and the not so reliable Mini, hopefully not! ;-) )

If not, I'm sure Paul will appreciate some marshals.

Looking forward to meeting you.

12 car entry for Will & Laura

Will,

The entry list is not in fact full so please put an entry in. The club's policy is to prioritise entries from beginners and novices over the exper crews, so it is the experts who on the reserve list and a space is still there for you. We usually expect 12 starters on the day from 14 entries so as Luis says you will definitely get a run. The entry list will be closed a week before the event with the experts then filling any spaces. After that it's first come first served for everyone reagardless of class.

We have a club night on 18th September so please come along to the General's Arms if you want any more training & awareness - there will be a few experienced navigators happy to help.

Hi everyone - thanks for your replies. We have been on holiday the last couple of weeks ... which means I am remiss on an entry form :-( I am just filling it out now. I've gone for "no loading" insurance is that right?

Insurance Loading

The "loading" is an insurance premium, so for example if you're under a certain age they will charge more. Have a read of point 17 in the regs at http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/cmc/12_Cars/1415/12_Car_Common_Regs_14-15.pdf which should help.

Hi

For navs/drivers arriving in seperate cars, will the parking area at the start be available to access after finishing or do we need to arrange to get the cars to the pub before we start?

Thanks!

12 car parking

The car park at Chappel and Wakes Colne Station/Railway Museum is free and open 24 hours - there are no gates to worry about. It's a couple of miles from the finish, so It's up to you whether to leave the spare car at the start or the finish. Depends how much time you have before the event I suppose.

Cheers

The final instructions say we must have our membership cards.... so I'll keep looking.

Priestly with Thanks

Hi Paul,  thanks for another great evenings Motor Sport.  What a way to kick off the 2014 Winter Series.  Jim really enjoyed the roads and the driving.  He thought the roads were the best he had driven in all the time we have been doing CMC 12 Cars.  When we got back to the pub that view was held by all.  Thanks to all the marshals and organisers for their conmtribution to a another great event.

Congratulations to Luis and Lucy for their 1st Overall.  The first of many, I think.

Regards,

Graham

Thanks Graham

In retrospect maybe the timing was a little tight - it's hard to keep up 30 mph average on some of those narrow twisty lanes or through large villages such as The Hedinghams and Earls Colne. Full results plus comments will be posted later today. Well done to everyone for getting round, and although the fail count was quite high 3 fails for an OTL or missed control soon mount up.

Someone paid me cash for insurance (apart from John C and Luis) but everyone else had already paid with their entries, so if it was you please let me know by email and I'll pass it on as a credit for the next event.

Thanks to Peter for noise, scrutineering and driving me round, to Brian and Geoff for course closer and dealing expertly with a couple of PR issues, and all the marshals who turned out.

See you all on the next one.

Priestley thanks

I have to agree with Jim and many others in saying that, at least from a driver's point of view, it was the most enjoyable 12 car I've ever done an this has nothing to do with the final result. The lanes were perfectly suited for the little Minis.

Lucy, what else to say about her?!? how her brain works on a Friday evening after a whole week of teaching a bunch of teens at school is beyond my understanding. It's not only her map reading and plotting skills, but her joviality too. Narrow and twisty lanes, Mini and herself made for a most enjoyable evening.

Thanks to Paul, Peter, all the others and of course the marshals.

It was great to see all the beginners taking part and also seeing everyone back at the pub everyone seemed to have enjoyed it despite the fails...

I better put the form for the next one in the post quickly!!

See you next month!!

Luis (red Mini)

P.S. we need marshals for the Preston :-) (I'll be in touch soon)

Priestley Results

These are attached. There are a couple of changes from those I announced last night, but none that affected the awards.  As I previously posted the timing was tight, although set strictly to 30 mph, and a number of beginners (and others) went OTL at one or more control. Learning when and where to cut route to stay within your time is a skill best picked up by experience. There were several loops where cutting would have saved a lot of time and only missed one or two code boards, a lesser penalty than OTL.  TC5 to 6 and TC8 to 9 were examples of this. Most organisers will put in one or two of these to a route so it's worth trying to spot them when you are plotting. TC2 to 3, which was map refs with approach and depart directions, seemed to fox a few as a lot of time was lost on this section by some crews. Still it was good that everyone made it to the finish, and thanks for the compliments on the route - I enjoyed it too!!

Firstly Paul (and all your assistants), thanks for an excellent night.

Now for our excuses, Mike and I were both a bit off colour last night, he with a terrible cough, and me sufferring with needing new glasses (old age and varifocals have caught up with me) and a worn out map where all teh unders and overs were did not help at all..And I am going to stick with those excises to cover up for my iffy form.We found the timing a bit tight but we were deliberatly not pushing too hard as teh car has had a fair bit of work since we ended up in the onion field in June.I knew we could just avoid OTL at the last TC if I made no errors on the last section, but a slight mis-plot sent us off route, so we ensured we got the code boards to offset the OTL fails, knowing we could get no more at MTC.

It seemed to me that a lot of effort had been put in to ensure all the clues etc were very "polished", everything seemed just right. The clues were very cleverly thought out.

Just enough information to plot the route without any doubt.

it was interesting to see our clues compared to the others at the end as well. I have been taking notes!

Cheers

12 car

well the wait was worth it !

it seems forever since the end of last years series but the premier 12 car series is back with a bang. well done Paul and team for a very good event. stuart and i have one major ctiticism. The event was about 50 miles too short. You could say the timing was a little tight but only if you combine it with clues that that were not the type usually used. we droped 20 min with one section   (the under and over ) causing most of the delay. driving up that pylon to get over that high voltage cable cost us at least 20 min other wise we would have cleaned the event no problem. well done again and looking forward to the next one

cant find the results but they might be behind the code board we couldnt find either

It was at 896345, just before the junction on the SWR triangle. The road was a little mucky so people may have thought the LWR was the right road, and might have missed it. 3 crews and the closing car found it so either you missed it or took the wrong route because it was definitely there.

A couple of people have had difficulty seeing the results as it was posted as a private attachment - I have now posted it as a public attachment which should be viewable by anyone. I'm sure when he gets back from the HRCR Classic Tony M will post them in the correct section of the website.

Thank you!!!

Thanks paul for answering the question....when I looked at it I didn't know where jw was! If I can work out a how to attach a picture I'll do so to show our route.

Thanks to Paul and to all marshals/helpers for a great night on Friday. The roads were rather interesting for a navigator but nice to have one which the drivers could get really stuck into too! And to the other competitors who always make the challenge so difficult!!

Lovely to see so many beginners too...I do hope they all stick with it! For a navigator starting off juggling 3 mapscon what, I would agree with, was tight timing for such roads, must have been very difficult but if you can do that you can cope with most situations!

Finally a massive thanks to Luis and LVL who got us round so successfully.....team teachers seems to be working despite our tiredness on a Friday evening!

Very much looking forward to the Mick Bliss!

Hopefully see people at Snetterton in the meantime

Lucy
