So, having talked about doing something for years, having had my licence also for years and doing nothing with it I finally bought Mark Webster's (Rover Centre Prepared) Purple MGZR Endurance machine - PG05UFN.
This weekend I've had a good look over and under it to see what it exactly I have bought and now having performed an oil & filter change and made sure everything was done up I am in a position to DO SOMETHING !!!!
But where to start ? - I've been to a few club nights and chatted to lots of people about different events and all that has done has made me even more excited (you wouldn't believe I am 43 years old would you?).
I know there's always some good advice on here so here is my open question, what to do next ?
You need to factor into your advice that I have a couple of friends who say they will (maybe next year) come and play in the left hand seat but it would be the blind leading the blind at the moment so I guess my question is, how do I take that first step ?
Thanks in advance - Justin
Late entry into the CSMA Autosolo next Sunday? [14th]. April Blossom 12 Car on 26th April? [http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/node/3527]. West Suffolk MC Targa Rally on 19th May?
That's just a few suggestions, but there's plenty to choose from.... http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/events/list
There is the WSMC Autosolo on April 28th at Debden which would be a good first outing too.
Thanks for the suggestions - The North Weald one did look good, I saw that over the weekend but I'm working nights over the weekend so driving bleary eyed for my first outing might not be so clever (or safe) despite my enthusiasm :)
I'm going to check to see if the 26th April is do-able with regard to work (12 Car) - Anyone free to be a co-driver to show me the ropes ?
Then the 28th @ Debden (Autosolo) is almost certainly free from work commitments - Again, anyone free on the day to point me in the right direction ?
I've just been looking at the Ross, now that looks like fun :)
Thanks,
Justin
Justin,
There will probably be several CMC at Debden but the crowd which go to Autosolos are a very friendly bunch anyway and will give you any help you need. Introduce yourself to the people at signing on and we will give you some pointers.
The best advice would be to arrive early, not just to make yourself known but to have plenty of time to walk the tests. You are allowed this and you will probably be able to remember them well having done so ( your route is well marked and numbered but you will take it all in better if you walk it beforehand).
You will get three runs at each test. I suggest you take the first run steadily to get the hang of things; Then you can wind it up!
See you there,
Tony.
OK - Advice taken and i've booked myself into the AutoSolo at Debden - Looking forward to it as a first day out for me and the car :)
Thanks,
Justin
Hi Justin, well done in entering the auto solo, you will have a good day. You will need to think of tyres, if you are driving the car there then consider there condition before driving home on them. You may need a couple of spares to scrub on the event. I am also doing the auto test so make yourself known to me ( i am the one in the mini scamp). I will help you get started. John.
John - I'll llok out for you - Thanks
On the subject of tyres, it came with a pretty new set of TOYO's and a set of wheels with Sportways also - What is it better to use on that day do you think ?
John - I'll llok out for you - Thanks
It's rather difficult to miss him, haha!!;-) plus it's not that you see many Scamps around, a healthy entry of Minis though...
Any thoughts on the tyre choice I should use - bring the road tyres or the sportways to use on the day ? - also I've not got my latest membership card yet which is a worry.
It depends on what the toyos are some are on, list 1b and thus not allowed.
I am hoping to put in a late entry and see you there tomorrow.
They are just normal road tyres, T1 Proxies I think - nothing special, not R888's or anything. Just not sure whether standard road tyres or sportways are better - I suppose being my first time out they are the least of my worries ! ;)
ah ha - lots of learning going on here ! - Just re-read Regs and now the bit at paragraph 9 makes sense - First off must be road legal - got that - "List 1B tyres are not permitted" ?? - Got that now, Page 194 of the blue book list some tyres which I guess are road legal but a bit naughty, just like the R888's that I have seen on my friends car ! - Perfect sense now. So my Sportway R1+'s are fine (not on list B) as are my road tyres - just a choice of what to wear - and as I said earlier, doesn't matter really to me so I think I shall take the Sportways and run on them and see what they are like. :) - Getting there.
P.S >> SIMON << I can see you have sent me a PM on here but I get "Page Not Allowed" when I try and read it - If you need a lift there tomorrow then use
<<
In that case then run the toyos and save the sportways for an enduro rally.
