possible cheap fun car on ebay

If you are looking for a cheap car, keep an eye on this one. Hard to know how much it will fetch but would be ideal for 12 cars and Targa rallies and probably much more. Just depends on how much the auction goes up by.

205

A lower spec 1.4 205 might be a better car to start with as it will be cheap to buy ,tax, insure and put petrol in. It will still be capable of good results on a 12 car once the crew have mastered the art of navigational rallying and will still put a grin on your face whilst driving around an air field.
We used my son's standard 205 rallye(75 BHP) on his first gymkhana and it was plenty quick enough for a novice driver,i believe the 205 xs is 85BHP and has a better final drive ratio for acceleration and would be a good choice .They still come up occasionally for the sort of money you want to spend. The TU engine will put up with a hard thrashing if you look after the oil and water and is also fitted to the 106 which might be worth considering aswell.
If straight line speed is important to you then obviously a bigger engine will be required in which case you need to at least double your budget . As the 205 is now an old car rust will need careful consideration followed by how much wear is in the back axle both of which can be expensive to put right.

I went to look at a 205

I went to look at a 205 Rallye today needs a far amount of work, bit of welding behind headlights and head gasket. The engine and box is out of the car. Needs some seats. But has a bolt in cage to go with the car. Looks all there just a big jigsaw puzzle!

Maybe

Could be a good project if its cheap but engine and box might be no good as you haven't seen them running.Simple car to work on though.

How cheap would you go? It

How cheap would you go? It needs welding rear screen fitting has spare. Bodywork is ok. No seats. Front brake shafts and suspension prob no good and rear axle unknown. He wants 350 plus 150 for cage?

rallye

Well we paid £850 for ours, we knew it had problems (no brakes, knocking noise and slight misfire) but have since replaced most of the suspension and the rear beam. To be honest most 205s are at the age/mileage now where the rear beam needs refurbing or just throwing away and replacing for a refurbed/less worn out one. Ours had no need to repair the body work or do any welding at all. It would be a shame to see another rallye go to the scrappy, but the one you've looked at sounds a lot of work for £500.

Yeah your right it is alot so I offered him £300. He said he'd think about it and ring me tonight. I'm sure something will turn up if he says no.

205GTi

Evening Hamish

I think a friend still has a 205 1.9GTi stored outside his workshop. Been there a few years now. Ideal for more motorsport related pastimes.

I think he said it needed rear suspension bushes or something. That of course might be terminal for 205's.

Do you want me to make enquiries?

Cheers

Colin

Hi Hamish, just seen a small Proton hatchback forsale in my village. On a V plate and looks quite tidy. Up for. £395 sounds ideal. John
