Wethersfield Targa Rally 14th July - News Update

The entries are warming up nicely at 44 cars I see.

The test diagrams are nearly ready for approval at the Motorsport UK. We are planning 15 tests of between 0.5 miles and 1.2 miles. 9 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon. There will be minor route changes on every test.

The tests are on smooth concrete and tarmac, with just two "cautioned" bumps on each "lap" and a short "grass over concrete" section. They are entirely suitable for a standard car and I do not expect tyre wear to be an issue.

We are in a relatively confined area of the airfield because it is an active glider venue every weekend. Crews will not be able to enter or leave the paddock without authorisation during the day so bring enough fuel for 20 miles (!). We are still looking at a morning access time from 07.30 to 09.00 but may refine this in the Final Instructions.

We need to supply all names and vehicle registration numbers well BEFORE THE DAY and you should email the entries secretary NOW with the names of any extra persons coming with you and their car reg no. If in doubt tell us who might come even if they do not turn up on the day.

I understand there is a marshal coming who also came to help on the East Anglian Classic recently, so keep an eye out for him on Sunday.

Targa - latest news

Could all competitors and marshals please note THAT THE OFFICIAL SPEED LIMIT ON THE BASE IS 25 MPH and not 30 mph, as referred to in the Final Instructions.

The authorities at Wethersfield are being incredibly helpful to us , and even tried to clean "spent cartridges" off the roadways in the test areas. It is possible that punctures could be caused by a cartridge and you might want to bring an extra spare "just in case". I dont expect general tyre wear to be an issue at this venue.

The competitors are all very quiet on this website ! There are a few threads on Mandh for those that use it. Luis has posted a piccy of the real Mini Spaniard that is keeping him away from action . . .for the timebeing.

See you all on Sunday

Thanks

Firstly many thanks to Jim and his band of organisers and of course all the marshals for their hard work in very hot conditions.

Very pleased with our results, especially the fastest test time on the last run of the fab and fast 'middle' test, to be honest i was trying on the last runs, as my cut and damaged wheel proved on the very last test....

Well done to Suze for chasing me down and pushing me to work hard two top ten results in a Micra! Also very pleased with the recent mods to the micra, she was flying yesterday. Got some more secret micra mod parts to collect in the next few weeks for one final set of mods for a bit more power....

Thanks from Car 33 Dolly

Thanks to all of the organisers and especially the marshalls, it was hot and dusty out there.Weathersfield is a really good venue - I hope it can be used again.A very friendly atmosphere in the paddock too.
Paul and I enjoyed our day - having a lot of fun going quite slowly (and sometimes round in circles, and a lot sideways.) due to lack of orientation, grip, driving skill etc...
It was a good event - grassroots affordable motorsport with the top drawer CMC events team touch, at a very good location.
Thanks all.

weathersfield targa rally

Another superbly run & organised event. A big thank you to all the organsing team. and the happy band of marshalls whom allways seam to be more than happy to help the compeditors have there fun. I think that these targa rallys are an ideal introduction to motor sport. without the huge expenses normaly attached to it. My grandson had a great day and is now definatly hooked on the sport so well done c.m.c organising team.

Big Thanks to all

I would like to thank all concerned for another great Targa.

Venue was great, stages were great. Found it more difficult as they kept moving the cones.

Kim next time you might beat the 126 very close. Thanks for the banter during the day.

Regards
Jon

Targa Thanks

Thanks to all involved with the event. It was a good day and I am pleased to finally have my first top ten as a driver. Still need to get quicker but it’s an improvement. The car was lovely to drive so I guess Matt has been doing something in the garage when he’s been out there! It was a busy weekend and the alarm clock on Sunday morning wasn’t popular but it was worth it. We got through the first set of fronts very quickly [Matt drove two sets of tests i.e. six tests on them, I did three tests before they needed changing]. The second set held up better until Matt took a cut on the last corner of the last test bending the wheel and everything needed swapping round again. Didn’t expect the gravel there not knowing the venue, but enjoyed it. Wish I was doing another Targa sooner than November…..

Thank you Maciek

I could see you were pleased to be a first time winner, and you had the edge from the beginning from studying the test times. I'm sure you were helped by navigating the tests for Piotr first, and maybe from running the cleanest surfaces at the back of the field. By the way your name is in Motor Sport News today - well done Suze for getting the 75 words inserted - even if only the Top 5 mentioned.

The venue was a lot more slippery than I expected ( no apology) but I will apologise for my "low tyre wear" comment. It is clearly hard to average 30 when there are lots of corners/cones.

As Jim mentioned, there is a brief report in MN today - not the 75 words and full results submitted but still good to have club level coverage in there.
