Colin
Looks like we now have a full entry and 1 on the reserve list.
If anyone fancies marshalling I am still in need of 2 more.
Cheers
Colin
it's great to see 6 beginners on the list!!
luis
And it's nice to see half the entry are Historics too.
mine is technically not an Historic as it's only a 1986 model... :-(
Plus I'll be cutting it fine to be at the start. I'm fitting a brand 'new' engine in the next couple of weeks so if i'm able to do it before the 22nd we'll be going at 'running in' pace...
Maybe not an Historic in the true sense, but a proper Mini all the same.
As for running-in pace, I hope you can run it in at 6000rpm... :-)
Can Kevin (confirmed entry) / Chris (1st Reserve) let me know if they have managed to sort out navigators.
I have finalised the starting order, and Finals will be published in a day or so.
There may be Final Finals at the start dependant on the weather this week.
Cheers
Colin
Colin, I will wait until Wednesday to confirm our entry (Luis/John in the Mini). I very much doubt my car is going to be ready for Friday night...
That will be a shame if you can't make it.
No backup car available????
unfortunately, not!
since I'm not able (being useless to make it clear) to do any work on the car myself other than changing bulbs I am dependent on others when it comes to mechanics. there's still a very slight chance to have it done but, as I said earlier, I very much doubt it.
It's very frustrating as I really want to have a go with an experienced nav (I still love Sofia though!!;-) )
Hi Colin, If Luis cant make Friday, I will help you if required or nav for one of the reserves which ever helps you the most. John
right, an agreement with Sofia has been reached!!
I'm allowed to use the Focus WRC;-) on Friday night but I'll have to skip playing rugby on Saturday... hmmm priorities!!!
So Colin, if it's alright with you I'd like to change my machinery for a rather boring Ford Focus 1800cc in maroon colour.
see you on Friday!
Well, I have a car but my proposed navigator has fallen through so unless there is anyone out there who wants to sit in, I may have to pull my entry. Any takers?
Kevin
Kevin -see above, John Conboy may be available.
Hang on a sec., Paul - JC will be out with Focusspaniard.
I will be out with Luis in the Focus
Emailled out to everyone I had an email address for.
Cheers
Colin
We have an urgent need for someone to do closing car duties, as someone has unfortunately had to drop out from doing this. There is a backup plan if all else fails, but if anyone is free to run the the closing car then we would be very grateful.
Incidentally, there is also now a space available for a competitor, although of course we'd prefer anyone free to close the course for us.
Contact Colin on 07885720957 or myself (Mike) on 07713066262
Thanks.
Hi Colin, there are a couple of newbies coming tonight. They might be able to help.
Our most grateful thanks to Mike Banks for rescuing our stricken MGB and to Steve Radley for giving us a lift back to Basildon.
Fuel pump failure put an end to what was a very enjoyable run
Eddie & Adrian.
Thanks Colin and crew for efforts. Challaging night didnt help that i didnt notice the 13square overlap on the maps (doh). Thats why i could not get the last section to work. Pleased with result though. John
Not a good night for the MGBs, both of which failed to finish for fuel supply reasons. Well done to the pair of big six Triumphs (2000 + TR6) who did finish, and especially well done to Colin and Ellen on their second (consecutive?) overall win. The route was great, at least from TC5 onwards, as I did course closer on that section, and the snow didn't last long!!
Well done Colin and Mike, and let's do it all again in 4 weeks time.
Cheers

Darren and I were going over the clues this morning and I couldn't work out why you had struggled JOhn, then I realised what you had meant. I had assumed everyone would change to map 168 as they went over the water at Cattawade, which is why I had put in the fairly sstraight and easy section, to allow a map swap whilst the driver was following some very simple directions and then some plotting time whilst on the move without loosing too much.
I think I had analysed the likely behaviour patterns of the navigators too deeply.
I am glad you enjoyed it, and hopefully Luis benefitted from having an expert (well still a novice technically) beside him.
Cheers
Colin
School boy error on my part.
Thanks Colin and team.
As it was our first 12 car last night we found it hard going but it didn,t put myself or my navigator off though.
We are signing up for the next 12 car and hoping the clues will be a little easier for us beginners, found some great roads though.
Also can i thank Jim and Beth Drake for stopping in the mini as i forgot to put in my Wheel brace, they kindly let me use their complete tool kit to change my wheel (schoolboy Error).
Regards
Jon
Unfortunately we never found the first time control as my nav skills took us past spot height 48 on boxted rd then realised after the sh at runkins corner us 42 not 48. After getting to gun hill confused I greened out as forgot to take sickness tablet..doh after that just tried to find the time control and failed so went home feeling sick. I will try it again with another nav and me driving as Lucy was more confused about the clues than me ha ha! Thanks
Hamish and Lucy.
As above, big thanks to Colin and all team for an enjoyable night out. Special thanks to all the marshals for braving a very cold night, my feet were frozen at arrival in the pub after driving so I can only think of those standing on the lanes for at least 1 hour, well done and thanks again!!
My first time with an experienced navigator was great, thanks to John Conboy for guiding me around following what felt like vey challenging clues, but a fantastic route for driving. The amount of information I was getting from John was a bit overwhelming at the beginning but I soon got used to it, it definitely gives you confidence while driving, I really enjoyed it and I hope you didn't find my driving too bad... ;-)
I was thinking for myself, had I done with Sofia we wouldn't have made it. The number of fails that the beginners get didn't surprise me at all!! I hope all those that struggled on Friday come back for the next one, it takes time to get better so, please, do not give up as it's great to see new faces...
I think John is sending the entry for the Derek Stone Memorial, and if everything goes well it will be with the Mini this time. Looking forward to it...
until then, see you at the Woodbridge Targa!!
luis (Focus 'WRC' car 10)
Was a tough night really, slippy and challenging for driver , and with nav to get the brain working. Thought we would be well down, having toured the centre of Colchester before finding TC1, and dropping 4 boards - all my fault. But Ellen has this knack of finding the right pace for the conditions, and we got into the swing of things a bit without any real drama. And the map overlap nearly got me too.
Was all the more enjoyable given the forced break since November; it was bloody cold out there for marshals so special thanks to them, and well done Colin for another great CMC 12car.
Seems I need to practice plotting on the move for next time - which is fair enough........
(The other) Colin.
Beth and I enjoyed the challange and I was pleased we managed to visit all the Time controls without opening the Panic Envelope. Had to chase against OTL after TC3 due to problems trying to find SH11 ??? Glad we were able to assist by lending our tools and wheel brace to keep the MGZR on the road. Sorry to leave the blue MGB stranded but by then we were tool less (and running very late) and could not offer much help. Beth did a great job on the maps, but regretted chosing the big desert with her pre-rally meal in the pub!!
Well done to all the Marshalls on such a cold night!
Morning all
I have sent the finalised results to Tony for uploading to the website.
No position changes, but a few extra fails for some of you, and some less for others.
A few things I noticed.
2 cars clocked in 1minute OTL at MTC8, but were seen "sorting themselves out" in the carpark before coming in. John "Usain Bolt" Conboy managed to avoid the 3 fails by 3 seconds.
1 car managed to miss MTC0 (we have managed to forget who as it didn't affect the results), but we suspect you went early.
1 car filled in the codebaords in all the wrong boxes, I had meant to go through the timecards with the beginners but it got a bit chaotic at the start, so no fails were applied once I spotted the pattern and it didn't affect the places), if anyone has any questions about them, ask via the forum,, or catch up with an "old hand" at the start of one the next events.
And finally, one to possibly catch you in future, 7 out of 8 finishers failed to comply with section 15 of the common regs, recording the code boards in ink. I know someone who still holds a grudge (don't I Mark!!) after having every single code board discarded on 1 event for this reason.
I promise to make it a little bit easier next time. Just a little bit.
Cheers

Colin, could you clarify something for Beth so we she doesn't make the same mistake next time. We got 3 fails at TC5 and at MTC8, we visied both and Beth thought we were still in time, can you advise were we OTL at these controls and thus counted as not visiting? Thanks Jim Drake.
Morning Jim
Just checking you were 3 mins OTL into TC5 (Paul's control along the east side of Alton Water) and 1m OTL into MTC8. You were 1m short of OTL into TC3 and TC6 and 3 mins short of OTL into TC7.
It looks like you cut the loops between TC3 and TC4 having dropped time after TC2, and then gone astray between TC4 and TC5. You then straight lined TC5 to TC6 to catchup (you may have wrong approached TC6 I suspect doing that).
Do you want me to email you the time card and a copy of the route?
Cheers
Colin
Thanks Colin for your diagnosis, You would make a great detective, you are about right with our route, including wrong approach to TC6!! didn't realise we were already OTL at Paul's Control, that explains the fails, new we were close at the end. No need to send time card or route. Thanks again for organising, see you at the next one,
Cheers
Jim
